I graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City with majors in both sculpture and printmaking. After a lifetime of making art and fifteen years as an exhibiting fine artist and owner of my own graphic design firm, I began to search out a new artistic challenge. I wanted to return to sculpture, after many years of working in two dimensions but, wished to create something more accessible and visible to a larger audience. One afternoon when walking through my neighborhood, on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, I came across a sign in a millinery shop window that read "Intern Wanted." Thus was born a new career and id (id) n. Now in my eighth year of making hats, I continue to create pieces that reflect and enhance the woman who wears them while maintaining my own sense of creativity and artistry. My pieces range from the sublime to the absurd. Some are practical, while others purely sculptural. I have made hats from both traditional materials, like straw and felt, and the less expected, such as wood veneer and gold plated brass. All are handcrafted by myself. In addition to designing every day and fashion hats, that have been donned at horse races and social events the world over, I have also produced millinery pieces for film, theater and dance. While I love seeing my work grace the pages of magazines and periodicals, my greatest joy comes for collaborating with a client who appreciates the beauty and artistry of a hand made custom creation. So, if you are interested in having a custom hat made for a special occasion or just interested in some additional information, please get in touch.
